“ First time coming here. Wasn't sure what to order. Everyone was so helpful and kind. I ordered some baby back ribs and some brisket. Delicious! ”
“ Don't be a bonehead and pass up the delectable and affordable barbecue being served up at Bonehead's Texas BBQ. Open for over fifteen years and located in the heart of downtown Lafayette along Mt. Diablo Boulevard, Bonehead's Texas BBQ comes from the ingenuity and barbecue talents of owner Dave Robertson (a.k.a. Duroc) who turned a passion for smoking meats on the side for over a quarter century into a lifelong career and independently owned business. At Bonehead's they serve authentic Texas barbecue, which means their meats take over 72 hours to soak in their rubs before they are even placed in their wood fired smoker for low and slow cooking. I have been to Bonehead's Texas BBQ one previous time enjoying their catering for a special event and remembered what a fun time we had there sitting and mingling out on their outdoor patio overlooking the main drag of Lafayette, and I made a promise to myself to get back their one day, and after a brisk weekday afternoon of shopping in nearby Walnut Creek, a friend and I decided to make a trip out to Bonehead's Texas BBQ for a sharable takeout dinner. Finding their location right off of Highway 24 and the First Street off ramp was super easy, as they also have their own private parking lot, with a spot seemingly open ready for us to take advantage of. The menu at Bonehead's Texas BBQ is broken up into sections such as Plate Combos, Meats sold by the pound or piece, Kids Menu, Party Packs, Sandwiches, Burgers, Sides, Chili & Chowder, Salads, Fries, Drinks, and Desserts. They certainly have a lot of menu items for sale considering they are such a small operation. We knew we wanted to order one of the three Plate Combos that they were offering with their 3 Meats and 3 Sides being the most value food wise as for $20.75 you got the option of selecting three meats from their menu from seven options, and three sides from their menu from ten options. We opted for their Brisket, Pulled Pork, and a 1/4 slab, which was three bones of their Baby Back Ribs, of which they charge an additional three dollars. For our sides, we chose their Cole Slaw, Potato (or Tater) Salad, and Fries. For a little under 24 dollars, before tip, we received a mountain full of food neatly packed for us in a takeout container. Unfortunately, since we were ordering takeout, we forgot to check our container before we left, so our Fries order was completely forgotten about on both sides of our order, which was unfortunate, so we received 3 Meats and 2 Sides, which was still a reasonable amount of food for two people to share. Upon our return home we dove into our Ribs, Pulled Pork, Tater Salad and Cole Slaw, and they were each wonderfully prepared with just the right amount of spices and slow cooking. Have portion sizes gone down in recent times, we didn't notice, as we were able to keep our Brisket to enjoy a day later and it still tasted wonderful despite the reheat which made our overall meal that more enjoyable. The sides, at the least the ones that we received too tasted amazing as their Tater Salad was a real standout that next time you better believe that I am ordering a half pint to enjoy that all by itself on my own as it was served with red peppers and onions an no mayonnaise, which makes it a traditional version of their family favorite recipe. I cannot believe it took me this long to make a return visit to Bonehead's Texas BBQ, as they are the authentic home to slow cooked barbecue, which also means they do not sell Tri Tip Meat, as that is a creation known mainly to that California, so you'll have to go elsewhere for that meat. Either way you have a lot of other menu items to choose from including some truly original Sandwich combinations with variations of their meats in a bun! Their chili also sounds delectable, but I am going to stay true to their core menu items and continue to order my barbecued meats and sides because at Bonehead's Texas BBQ, alongside live music and sports playing on a multitude of flat panel televisions, they are serving up authentic Texas bred barbecue for all to enjoy at a reasonable price point. Here's to hoping there's another fifteen years of success for Bonehead's Texas BBQ, so many more locals get to enjoy their rubbed and smoked meats that you cannot find anywhere else nearby. ”
“ If you like meat get yourself down to Boneheads. The pulled pork is juicy and flavorful. The brisket is smoked to perfection and delicate enough to cut it with your spoon! The baby back smoke was a bit strong for my taste but the meat was moist and lean. My favorite was the smoked and fried wings. I ordered them with the sauce on the side which I believe is the correct way to go because the wings are so delicious on their own you're going to want to eat at least some of them without the sauce. The hotter BBQ sauce was very good with the meats and the wings. My son had the Bacon Cheeseburger and it looked delicious as well. Just be aware they put a signature sauce on the bun so make sure to say whether or not you want the sauce when you order. They have four nice tap brews and a select choice of wines as well as a very cool fountain soda machine with free refills on the soda. Give them a try and you'll keep coming back! ”
“ Beyond hit the spot! I had ribs, Mac and cheese and greens! Perfection in every way. Ribs were perfectly cooked, the sauces delicious. The kind that leaves the perfect after taste! The pic below is of my Togo box! This place is a must for ribs. Further more prices are reasonable and the place is immaculate. Finding this place felt like hitting jackpot! ”
“ Came by on a weeknight and enjoyed a quick 3 x 3 plate (enough for two people). We had the brisket, baby back ribs, and pulled pork, with cole slaw, mac and cheese and collard greens. The pulled pork was very tasty - I usually have to rely on sauce for pulled pork but it was great without it. The brisket was super tender and the ribs were firm enough. Sides were really good and not just a series of throw-ins. I did not think it was overpriced as compared to other local BBQ places. The parking lot is a little tight but you can likely park on the street nearby. I would come back and have some hot links as well. ”
“ GREAT FLIPPIN VALUE. I could not believe we only spent around $20 on a BBQ plate in Lafayette! This was the 3x3 plate (3meats, 3 sides) - thoughts on the food near the end. There's tons of street parking if you can't park in the lot. They have plenty of seating space in and outdoors. The restaurant is clean and we received good service. This is not a sit-down restaurant - you order/pay ahead and then enjoy! * Brisket: 4/5 - yummy! * Pulled Pork: 4/5 - Delicious! * Baby-back Ribs: 4/5 - Fall of the bone! * Mac & Cheese: 2/5 - Basically stovetop mac. * Baked Beans: 3/5 - Good, nothing special tho. * Collard Greens: 4/5 - Flavorful! Nothing really blew us away for an individual 5/5 rating, but overall we enjoyed our meal at Bonehead's and will be back! ”
“ This is the best bbq I've had in a long time. The meat just falls off the bone and has a nice buttery texture. After a long productive day, I decided to take my wife and I for dinner and grub on some ribs, brisket, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. Everything was perfect. The meat is so tender, juicy, and pairs perfectly with their hot bbq sauce. The atmosphere here is like something out of Austin; lights, lots of people eating and laughing, smell of smoked bbq, etc. it's perfect! There are lots of seats from indoor to the outdoor patio. The food here is great and I'd love to come back again and try more. I met Dave, the owner, earlier today and after our conversation about his bbq, I knew I had to come and experience this. I will be coming back for more! Thank you Dave! ”
“ Working in the area I checked yelp to see what's nearby. Not quite 4 star rating but I gave em a chance. Located off Mt Diablo blvd which is pretty easy to get to. Decent but small parking lot as they share with the neighboring business as well as a shared restroom. Pretty good amount of outdoor seating and about 10 tables inside. Beers and spirits available so you can spend a decent amount of time here with some friends. Like most bbq places, the menu isn't extensive and thats good. I got brisket, pulled pork, greens and mac. All of which got a high passing grade, I was actually impressed being that my expectations were low. Especially in a nice area like this, bland food is what would be the assumption but these people know how to cook! The sauce has a nice tiny spicy kick to it, meat is tender and juicy. Everything kinda needed salt and pepper but they provided that in the plastic fork packet. Maybe some hot sauce could've been a finishing touch but im not complaining. While eating I noticed a few things on the menu I feel I NEED to go back and check out. Friendly staff, very clean establishment inside and out. Looks like it can get pretty busy during peak hours. I recommend this place to anybody and next time I work out there I'm gonna pick some up to take home to the family. ”
